Rahab

There is so much in Joshua chapter 2.  First the spies come and hide in of all places but the house of the prostitute.  Of all the places in the city and all the people can you imagine the only one that was trustworthy enough was Rahab the prostitute.  The spies took a big chance running into her house but it was not by chance.  For the Lord was clearly directing their paths.  In the previous chapter Joshua reminded the people of the words of Moses that they need not fear for the Lord their God was with them!

Joshua himself understood the importance of trusting God.  He too had been a spy and had seen how a bad report had paralyzed the Israelites for taking the land 40 years earlier.  Moses was no longer with them now it was his turn to send in the spies.  The Lord promised Moses they would go in and possess the land and because God is true to his promises they were about to do so.  I can't imagine what must have been going through Joshua's heart and mind. He too had to trust God that these spies would bring back a good report.  Rahab confided in the spies she had heard what the Lord God had done when He dried up the Red Sea when they came out of Egypt and all the other miracles God had done.  So much so that she declared that the God of Israel was the one true and only God of heaven and earth and even the earth below.  She to wanted salvation, to be spared the wrath of this great and awesome God and it was granted to her.  Not because she hid the spies although that was part of it, that was the natural part of it, I think it was because she acknowledged the God of Israel as the one true God.  She had heard of His great fame she knew He was for real.  It was her faith in Him that the Lord knew about before He ever sent the spies in.  That is why when they needed a place to hide the Lord directed their footsteps right to her door.

God knows each one of our hearts, that is why it is so important that we not judge anyone!  That is God's job He will use who He will use, we just need to always acknowledge Him, trust Him and be available to Him.  Just like Rahab when the opportunity arose, she had in her that holy fear of the God of Israel.  She meant nothing to the people she was living with, she had no hope, she was just a prostitute.  Yet out of all the people in the city God chose her and used her because she acknowledged Him, she put her trust in His people and she was available to Him.  She was obedient and putting out the scarlet ribbon so that no one dare kill anyone in her house.  She knew that God was a God of His Word and that His people also kept their word.

We need to be the same today.  Our God is the same yesterday today and forever.  Yeshua told us. let your yes be yes and your no be no, Matthew 5:37.  Also if we would do as Rahab did putting our faith into action I wonder how much more the Lord could use each and everyone of us for.  Let us acknowledge Him in all our ways and surely He will direct our paths, Proverbs 3:5
