Shalom Dear Brothers and Sisters Blessed Are the Poor in Spirit Matthew 5:2 Yeshua says, "Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven". When Yeshua made this statement He was simply pointing them and reminding them of, Psalm 149:4, "for the Lord delights in his people; he crowns the humble with salvation". When Yeshua started the teaching on the Mount of olives with this scripture He was using a Psalm of David, I think one reason He did this was to get the Pharisees thinking because the Prophets say the Messiah will come from the lineage of King David. The people of that day were in such confusion concerning God's Word. The Pharisees and teachers of the law had placed heavy burdens on the people. Yeshua came to show the difference between the written law/Torah and the oral law that was being taught during that time and today as well. He wanted us to understand the spirit behind the law/Torah. When we become prideful because of what we are doing or who we become or because we have great knowledge then we are no longer serving the Lord. God hates the proud (Proverbs 6:16, Proverbs 11:2, Proverbs 16:18) it is what caused Lucifer to be cast out of heaven and a third of the angels with him. Now he has become not only God's enemy but also ours because we are made in the image of God. He was once the most beautiful angel of all creation but because he decided that his gifts were worth more praise he chose to do battle against God and God cast him out. No creation of God is greater then He. God created each and every one of us with different gifts and talents to use for His Glory! They are not for our praise and glory. Be careful not to fall into the trap of looking up to highly of someone who's got a wonderful gift. It is good and important to encourage one another to continue to use our gifts that the Lord has given us. However, we must always keep our eyes on the giver of gifts. Yahweh is His name, the Lord strong and mighty, Adonai T'zivot (the Lord of armies). The name above all names! Yeshua our King and Savior who one day before Him every knee will bow and declare He is Lord. Let us be faithful and walk humbly before our God, then we shall be blessed and ours will be the kingdom of heaven!
