Shalom Dear Brothers and Sisters Elijah and John the Immerser As I've been reading through Kings, I marveled at the way God puts things together. The Pharisees and teachers of the law didn't recognize John the Immerser as Elijah. Yet the Father even gave John a very similar appearance right down to the clothing! In 2 Kings 1 a situation arises where Elijah is sent to meet the messengers of the King of Samaria. When the messengers returned with a message from Elijah the king asks who is this man what did he look like who gave you the message. They said he was a hairy man with a leather belt wrapped around his waist. The king immediately knew this was Elijah. So I thought it was very interesting that John the Immerser was described in both Matthew's Gospel and Mark's Gospel as a man who wore camel's hair and a leather belt around his waist. If this isn't a picture of Elijah then I don't know what is. I love it when the New covenant confirms the old covenant. It was the same spirit of Elijah that rested on John the Immerser yet the Pharisees and teachers did not recognize him. They thought that Elijah had to come in body. This is because Elijah went to heaven in a whirlwind so he never died. That's why they asked John the Immerser if he was indeed Elijah. He said no and he was correct but at the same time Yeshua went on to explain to His disciples in Matthew 17 after the Transfiguration that Elijah had indeed come to testify of Him. It was after this they understood He was referring to John the Immerser. They understood and believed prior to that disclosure that He was the Messiah they had all been waiting for. For us it seems very clear and many times we sit back and wonder how it was they didn't understand Yeshua was the Messiah. They were under so much political control by the Romans and at the same time there were other ones professing to be the Christ. So the Jews and Pharisees had much to weigh concerning who was the true Messiah. The fact is Yeshua had to come to redeem mankind, for without the shedding of blood there cannot be redemption for sin. In this day and age the Lord is beginning to reveal Himself to the natural seed let us rejoice in that fact. Let us also continue to pray that more and more will recognize and believe that Yeshua is Messiah so that we may worship together and hasten the day of the Lord!
