Shalom Dear Brothers and Sisters
As I continued reading on in Genesis 15 God confirms His covenant with Abram. There were two things that really struck me the first was that after cutting the sacrifices in two as instructed by God Abrams fell into a deep sleep and great fear and horror falls over him vs.12. Now in all the encounters that Abram has had with God never has he experienced fear or horror. So it caused me to pause and think. But as I reread that portion of that chapter the other thing that struck me was the statement in vs.16 "but the fourth generation shall return here for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete". I think God was showing Abram the affliction and his descendents would go through in Egypt and this is what caused him the fear and horror. God also promise though that they would come out with great wealth, and they did!
As we have just been reading in the last few weeks of the Torah cycle. How God kept his promise to Abraham and brought his descendents out with a strong arm! Got also promised He would judge that nation. Egypt has never recovered and has never been a superpower in the world since that time, the land lies desolate and is mostly desert the people are poor at least most of them are. What is even more devastating for that nation is the fact that their final judgment has not yet come. Then I continue to think about the iniquity of the Amorites. The Amorites were a large but evil tribe. They worshiped false gods and were involved in all sorts of idolatry and depraved activities. Is this not what is going on today in our world. It is very much a picture of the end times in my opinion.
Yeshua promised He would return He also told us what to expect and to watch for in the last days. That is why it is so important that we too do not get caught up in the things of this world. God is patiently waiting just as He patiently waited allowing 400 years for His people to remain in Egypt, giving time for the Amorites to repent of their ways. He waited until their iniquity was complete and then He used His people whom He redeemed from the hand of Pharaoh to totally annihilate these evil people. Even when God brought the Israelite children out of Egypt many Egyptians surrendered to God and came out and followed the God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob/Israel. Because they recognized that He was the one true and living God and that He was with His people.
As we crossed the Red Sea and wandered in the wilderness word spread of how God was caring for His children! The Amorites would have had time to hear and know but they chose not to change their ways and follow after the one true God. Once again God's people are back in the land of Israel and though the nations rage around them we need only remember the Covenant Keeper will look after them. He is true to His Word, He is unchanging and incapable of breaking a covenant. The covenant He made with Abraham He will keep! For those of us who are grafted in we can find comfort in this. While there is still time we need to be the people of God, holy and set apart for Him. So the rest of the world will have a chance to repent and turn to the one true God and Messiah Yeshua. Before the iniquity of the world is complete and Yeshua returns!
B'Shem Yeshua Hamashiach, Amen
In His Love, Theresa
