Shalom Dear Brothers and Sisters Set Apart and Trusting We can honestly say as we look around at what is going on in the world we are truly headed into the last days. If ever there was a time that we need to be truly set apart and putting our total faith and trust in the Lord it is now! We need to follow the example of our father Abraham. Or Abram as he was still known in chapter 14 of Genesis. Lot and Abram were relatives and they were blessed by God. God blessed Lot only because he was Abram's nephew I believe, because he was part of Abram's household. Because of a blessing on them they multiplied greatly so much so that they needed to separate. Abram acting selflessly offered to Lot the first choice of area where he could settle with all of his flocks and herds and people. Lot seeing through natural eyes chose the area close to Sodom eventually dwelling within the city. Abram on the other hand dwelt by the terebinth trees in the area called Mamre near Hebron, Genesis 13: 18. Now earlier in the chapter and verse 13 it says that the men of Sodom were evil and wicked in the sight of the Lord. However later on while Abram continued to stay separate waiting patiently on the Lord, because of the promise God had made to him in verse 14, Abram continued to show responsibility for his nephew Lot. There was war in the land and although it had no effect on Abram it did affect his nephew Lot because Lot was living in the city of Sodom and was captured. When Abram found out he gathered fighting men from within his household and went and rescued Lot his family and all his belongings. When the king of Sodom and Abram came together after the fighting was over he offered him the spoils. It made me think that first of all Sodom must've been a very rich society. The other thing I noticed was he wanted the people for himself. Abram on the other hand wanted nothing from the king of Sodom. He was not ashamed to declare that he served and trusted in the one true and living God who created the heavens and the earth! Abram was wise he was not going to have any ties with this king. In chapter 14:23 Abram tells the King of Sodom he will not take anything from him least the king be able to come back and say he made Abram rich. Abram was already beginning to understand the meaning of being set apart by God and putting his total trust in Him. Our society is now becoming much the same as that of Sodom and Gomorrah if ever there was a time that we need to learn and understand that we need to be truly set apart it is now. That is why I said earlier now is the time we truly need to be set apart from the rest of the world. Why do I say these things because the days are coming when we will have to make a choice. As we learn and practice to trust the Lord in different areas of our lives, starting with small things our faith will increase and we will be able to stand when the difficult days come. I'm learning to do this myself. We have been given the tools that Abram did not have. We have the Word of God at our fingertips whenever we need it. We have the Holy Spirit dwelling within us. Many of us have leaders who can help us and strengthen us. Our Fellowship's our congregations what ever you want to call them, our brothers and sisters to encourage us. Abram had none of this no wonder he was found righteous in the eyes of Elohim. When we are weak there are many places we find our strength! Most importantly let's find our strength in the Lord our God!
