Shalom Dear Brothers and Sisters The Lord Speaks to Joshua In Joshua Chapter 1 Lord comes and speaks to Joshua because Moses is now dead. Joshua had been Moses assistant until the day came for him to pick up the mantle and lead the children of Israel into the promised land. All through vs. 1-9 the Lord instructs Joshua as to what to do. Be strong and of good courage for the Lord was with him in all that he would do. The other important aspect was that Joshua had the book of the Law not depart from his mouth that he might meditate on the law day and night not turning to the left or to the right. So that in all he would do he would prosper! (My paraphrase) so Joshua went and spoke to the children of Israel and they agreed to follow him and obey all the ways of the Lord. They agreed to follow Joshua the same way they followed Moses. Their hearts were set on the Lord God trusting in Him. How this must have pleased the Father to have a generation of people who would follow His ways! So that He could once again show Himself strong on behalf of His children! As Joshua prepared to go in and take the land once again he first spoke with the Lord. As we see over in chapters 3:7, "and the Lord said to Joshua, this day I will begin to exalt you in the sight of all Israel, so they may know, that as I was with Moses, I am with you". What I really appreciate about Joshua in this matter is that in a few short verses later he turns this around and gives all the glory to God. Verse 9, "so Joshua said to the children of Israel, come here and hear the words of the Lord your God". When he instructed them to go into the water with the Ark of the covenant and the waters parted so they crossed through on dry land Joshua gave all the glory to God. Versus 10 through 17. Yes Lord was with Joshua just as he had been with Moses. Joshua did not take any of the glory for the parting of the Jordan River. Even though God had said to him that he would exalt Joshua amongst the people, which he did. Once again God is beginning to raise up a people that will seek Him with all of their hearts minds and strength. People who are returning to the ancient paths. People who have the law in their mouth and meditate on it. For in it we find blessings and truth. Our salvation comes from Messiah Yeshua with out that we cannot dare enter into the very presence of God. But because of the blood of Yeshua we now have the grace to walk and follow the commandments of our Heavenly Father. As we seek Him with all of our hearts He will speak to us just as He spoke to Joshua and all our forefathers. He will show us what to do, when to do it, and how to do it! The key is to focus on Him and allow Him to work in us and through us by the power of the Holy Spirit. We need to be open and willing vessels. We need to be strong and of good courage trusting and knowing that the Lord our God is with us always! B'Shem Yeshua Hamashiach, Amen In His Love, Theresa
